Massive Data Breach Exposes Social Security Numbers

National Public Data confirmed that hackers have stolen a vast trove of personal information, including the Social Security numbers of nearly all Americans. The breach involved about 2.7 billion personal records, which were subsequently leaked online, posing a severe risk of identity theft and fraud.

National Public Data noted the intrusion was due to a third-party’s actions, with the hackers first accessing the data in late December 2023. They then began selling it in April 2024, with parts of the data surfacing over the summer.

The company coordinated with law enforcement to address the incident and advised affected individuals on protective measures against potential financial fraud.
