The Biden administration has announced a $325 million grant to Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) in Michigan to build a state-of-the-art polysilicon facility.

This significant investment, part of the CHIPS and Science Act, aims to boost U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, reinforcing national supply chains and generating around 1,000 construction jobs alongside 180 permanent manufacturing roles. Governor Gretchen Whitmer highlighted that this initiative strengthens Michigan’s role in advanced manufacturing, helping meet global demand for polysilicon, an essential material for semiconductors​.

HSC’s new facility will be strategically located in Saginaw County, benefiting Michigan’s economy and enhancing U.S. independence in semiconductor production.
