Authorities in Ratchaburi, Thailand, have cracked down on an illegal Bitcoin mining operation following persistent power outages in the region.
The raid, conducted by local police and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), was triggered by numerous complaints from residents regarding fluctuating electricity and damaged appliances.
The investigation led officials to a house that had been consuming unusually high levels of electricity without corresponding payments.
Upon entering the property, authorities discovered that it was being used as a hub for Bitcoin mining, with over 900 mining rigs reportedly involved.
However, by the time the raid took place, much of the equipment had already been removed, likely by the operators who had fled the scene in anticipation of the police action.
The illegal operation is suspected to have caused significant power disruptions in the area since mid-July when the mining setup became fully operational. Despite the extensive use of electricity, no arrests were made during the raid, and authorities are continuing their investigation to locate those responsible.
