General Motors Secures $625M Investment in Lithium Mining Joint Venture

General Motors (GM) is committing $625 million to expand its lithium production capacity through a joint venture with Lithium Americas Corp., aiming to secure domestic lithium supplies critical to electric vehicle (EV) battery production.

The investment focuses on the Thacker Pass project in Nevada, which holds North America’s largest known lithium deposit, targeting an annual output of around 40,000 metric tons once operational.

GM will hold a 38% ownership stake in the project, marking one of the largest U.S. investments in lithium mining.
