The Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) made history by becoming the first central bank globally to host a live Bitcoin mining exhibit as part of an art display.
The exhibition, titled Art, Artificial Intelligence, and the Future of the Economy, features real crypto mining rigs and installations by artist Alberto Echegaray, including the notable “Moneyballs”—spheres crafted from shredded currency.
These spheres, including a piece containing $1 million worth of shredded U.S. dollars, symbolize the dematerialization of currency and spark dialogue on economic evolution and digital assets.
The display aligns with Argentina’s recent shift toward embracing digital assets, propelled by the leadership of President Javier Milei, who has been vocal about supporting Bitcoin as an alternative financial instrument.
The exhibit aims to engage visitors by intertwining digital art with real-time financial concepts, underscoring the central bank’s evolving approach amid Argentina’s hyperinflation and economic challenges.
