At CNBC’s Delivering Alpha 2024 conference, Ben Affleck, co-founder and CEO of Artists Equity, expressed confidence that artificial intelligence (AI) will not replace actors or writers in the foreseeable future. He emphasized that while AI can generate imitative content, it lacks the creative nuance and taste inherent in human artistry.

Affleck highlighted the unique value of human collaboration in filmmaking, noting that the collective discernment and construction of narratives by actors are beyond AI’s current capabilities.

He stated that AI’s role might be limited to handling more laborious and less creative aspects of production, potentially lowering costs and barriers to entry for emerging filmmakers.

During the conference, Affleck also discussed the potential for AI to personalize entertainment experiences. He envisioned a future where audiences could request custom episodes of their favorite shows, tailored to specific plotlines, thereby creating new revenue streams and partnerships between Hollywood and Silicon Valley.

Affleck’s perspective aligns with a broader industry sentiment that, despite technological advancements, the essence of storytelling and performance remains a distinctly human endeavor. He believes that while AI can assist in certain areas, it cannot replicate the depth and authenticity that human creators bring to the arts.
