Deutsche Telekom, Europe’s largest telecommunications provider and parent company of T-Mobile, has announced plans to start mining Bitcoin.
This development was revealed during the BTC Prague conference, where Dirk Röder, head of Web3 infrastructure and solutions at Deutsche Telekom, shared the company’s intentions to expand its involvement in the blockchain space by mining Bitcoin.
Röder, in a symbolic gesture, wore a shirt featuring a pink Bitcoin logo styled after Deutsche Telekom’s branding, signifying the company’s deeper integration into the digital currency ecosystem.
Since 2023, Deutsche Telekom has been operating Bitcoin nodes and Bitcoin Lightning Network nodes, making this expansion into mining a natural progression for the telecom giant.
The decision to enter the Bitcoin mining space aligns with Deutsche Telekom’s ongoing blockchain initiatives.
The company has already established itself as a validator on various blockchains, including Polygon, Ethereum, and others.
This move into Bitcoin mining is part of a larger trend of telecommunications companies integrating blockchain technology into their operations. With this venture, Deutsche Telekom aims to solidify its presence in the rapidly growing digital economy.
