HRF Bitcoin Development Fund Grants Empower 20 Global Projects with 1 Billion Satoshis

The Human Rights Foundation (HRF) has announced a significant contribution to the Bitcoin ecosystem, granting 1 billion satoshis (around $590,000) to 20 global projects through its Bitcoin Development Fund.

These initiatives focus on education, privacy, decentralizing mining, and providing private financial solutions to human rights groups. This funding reinforces Bitcoin’s role as a tool for global empowerment, especially in regions plagued by financial repression and authoritarian regimes.

One notable recipient of the HRF grant is the African Bitcoiners project, which aims to onboard Africans onto Bitcoin through beginner courses, free payment routing for merchants, and allowing the purchase of essential services using Bitcoin. This initiative highlights the growing adoption of Bitcoin across Africa, where financial systems are often unreliable.

In Latin America, grants will help developers from authoritarian nations travel to events like the Bitcoin++ conference in Berlin. The funds will cover travel expenses for Latin American developers to participate in this international event, fostering the growth of Bitcoin innovation in the region.

This latest round of funding from HRF solidifies the organization’s commitment to leveraging Bitcoin for human rights and financial autonomy worldwide.
