Figure AI CEO Brett Adcock has announced a major collaboration with OpenAI to advance humanoid robotics.
The partnership, supported by Microsoft, provides Figure AI with access to top-tier AI infrastructure, including the highly coveted H100s from Microsoft Azure. This will enable Figure’s robots to reason and plan, pushing the boundaries of robotics in real-world applications like manufacturing and supply chain logistics.
The collaboration between Figure AI and OpenAI is designed to merge the research capabilities of OpenAI with Figure’s expertise in robotics hardware and software, accelerating the timeline for commercial deployment.
Adcock emphasized that Figure’s goal is to develop humanoid robots capable of working seamlessly alongside humans, processing language, and executing tasks autonomously. The partnership aims to create robots that can perform complex reasoning and self-correcting actions, a significant leap toward more intelligent robots.
With recent funding of $675 million, Figure AI plans to scale up its AI training, manufacturing, and workforce to bring humanoid robots into commercial operations.
This development follows a growing trend in the industry, where other robotics companies, such as Boston Dynamics and 1X Technologies, are also working to deploy humanoid robots. However, Figure’s use of multimodal models could provide a competitive edge by enabling robots to process and act on verbal commands.
