Florida State University Mass Shooting: 2 Dead, 6 Injured; Suspect in Custody

On April 17, 2025, a mass shooting occurred at Florida State University’s Student Union in Tallahassee, resulting in two fatalities and six injuries, including the suspect. The deceased were not students. The injured victims were transported to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, with one in critical condition and five in serious condition.

The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, a current FSU student and son of a Leon County Sheriff’s deputy, was apprehended and hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries . Authorities recovered three firearms: a handgun on Ikner, a shotgun inside the Student Union, and another weapon in his vehicle

Witnesses reported that Ikner arrived in an orange Hummer and began firing near the Student Union. Students and faculty were instructed to shelter in place as law enforcement secured the campus.

FSU canceled all classes and university events through April 18, including athletic events . President Donald Trump, Governor Ron DeSantis, and Attorney General Pam Bondi expressed condolences and support for the FSU community.

The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.

Law enforcement continues to examine the incident and its circumstances.
