Samsung Electronics is constructing a state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication plant in Taylor, Texas, with plans to commence 2nm chip production by 2026. This initiative is bolstered by substantial funding from the U.S. government under the CHIPS and Science Act, which has allocated up to $4.745 billion to support Samsung’s efforts.
The Taylor facility represents a significant component of Samsung’s broader strategy to expand its semiconductor manufacturing footprint in the United States. The company has committed to investing approximately $37 billion to build chip production facilities and a research center by 2030, aiming to enhance its competitive position in the global semiconductor market.
In addition to Samsung’s endeavors, other U.S.-based companies are making strides in semiconductor manufacturing. Texas Instruments, for instance, has secured up to $1.6 billion in funding to support the construction of new fabrication plants in Texas and Utah, focusing on producing a range of semiconductor technologies.
These investments are part of a broader national effort to bolster domestic semiconductor production, reduce reliance on foreign suppliers, and strengthen the resilience of the U.S. technology supply chain. The CHIPS and Science Act, which provides $52.7 billion in funding for semiconductor research and manufacturing, plays a pivotal role in facilitating these advancements.
While challenges remain in achieving high-yield production at the 2nm scale, the ongoing investments and developments in Texas and across the United States signify a concerted effort to advance semiconductor manufacturing capabilities domestically.
