The NBA has fined Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards $50,000 for directing inappropriate language and making an obscene gesture toward a fan during Game 1 of the Western Conference first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The incident occurred with 4:33 remaining in the third quarter of the Timberwolves’ 117–95 victory at Crypto.com Arena.
Edwards responded to heckling by grabbing his crotch and making a vulgar remark, which was captured on video and widely circulated on social media. The league announced the fine on Tuesday, citing unsportsmanlike conduct.
This is not the first time Edwards has faced disciplinary action from the NBA. Earlier in the 2024–25 season, he was fined $35,000 for making an obscene gesture during a game against the Sacramento Kings.
Additionally, he has been penalized for using profane language in media interviews and for failing to leave the court promptly after being ejected, bringing his total fines for the season to over $370,000.
Despite the controversy, Edwards delivered a strong performance in Game 1, recording 22 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists. The Timberwolves lead the series 1–0, with Game 2 scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.
