So, there you were, at you’re $12,000 laptop with all of your self help books and well-liked and shared posts, with all of the money in the world.
What more could you possibly want?
Apparently, the latest and greatest trend in social media is profile watching.
What is profile watching?
It’s a legal form of stalking if you asked me.
It’s when you add someone and don’t engage with them. It could be as easy as just saying a simple “Hello, I saw you’re page and I’d like to connect.”
When is it appropriate to label someone a profile watcher?
- They add you without a greeting.
- After accepting the add they don’t reach out (ever).
- You kindly reach out, and they leave you on read.
No sense in giving people like this the luxury of collecting intelligence from you.
Keep in mind that this only applies if you’ve never actually met (whether in person or online) and they proceed to add you.
They initiated contact and so they’re obviously interested in something. Maybe this is just a new or sophisticated way to troll someone.
Whatever it is, it’s not bringing any value to my professional or social life.

This method can apply to any social media platform. However, I’m specifically emphasizing LinkedIn because this is where it absolutely shouldn’t happen.
Most people just want a decent job so they can take care of their families.
There’s really no reason to make the job search awkward, weird, and annoying.
I’m not going to spend much time on this subject, but I needed to point that out.
