Apple has expanded its Security Bounty program to include its Private Cloud Compute (PCC) infrastructure, offering rewards up to $1 million for identifying critical vulnerabilities.
This initiative coincides with the launch of iOS 18.1, which introduces Apple Intelligence features.
Key Details:
- PCC Overview: PCC handles complex AI tasks that exceed on-device processing capabilities. It is built on Apple Silicon and a custom operating system, emphasizing privacy and security.
- Bug Bounty Rewards:
- $50,000: For unintended data exposure due to configuration flaws or system design issues.
- $100,000: For unauthorized code execution within PCC.
- $150,000: For accessing user request data or sensitive information from a privileged network position.
- $250,000: For extracting data beyond the defined trust boundary.
- $1,000,000: For arbitrary code execution with privileged system access. Hackread+2Apple Security Research+2Apple Security Research+2
- Research Tools: Apple provides a Virtual Research Environment (VRE) for researchers to analyze PCC’s security. This includes access to PCC software, a security guide, and source code for certain components.
By inviting the security community to scrutinize PCC, Apple aims to reinforce its commitment to user privacy and the robustness of its AI infrastructure.
