President Donald Trump told reporters outside the White House that the Department of Government Efficiency— also known as DOGE—might become a “monster” that could “go back and eat Elon” Musk.
Trump added he is reviewing whether to deport Musk back to South Africa, the entrepreneur’s native country, stating “we’ll have to take a look” when asked about deportation plans.
Per Fox News coverage, Trump linked Musk’s complaints to the upcoming termination of electric vehicle mandates and warned that federal subsidies enjoyed by Musk could trigger DOGE to target him.
According to Axios, Trump doubled down on the phrase: “DOGE might have to go back and eat Elon,” while reiterating uncertain stance on deportation foxnews.com+6axios.com+6politico.com+6.
The remarks reflected escalating tensions with Musk, whom Trump previously appointed to head DOGE before a public fallout over major spending legislation dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill”
