Figure AI Unveils a Humanoid Robot Folding Laundry Autonomously Using Helix

Figure AI announced on August 12, 2025 that its humanoid platform folded laundry fully autonomously.

Company materials state that engineers reused the Helix end to end neural network with no architectural or hyperparameter changes and only added a new dataset, marking a first for humanoids with multi fingered hands performing laundry folding without teleoperation.

According to Figure AI, the demonstration shows Helix transferring from logistics to laundry folding through data scaling rather than new code paths.

Media coverage reiterated that towels were folded sequentially and stacked after perception and manipulation steps guided by Helix.

Per Benzinga and Futurism, industry context includes prior laundry demos by other labs that relied on teleoperation, while Figure highlighted autonomous performance. Coverage identified the robot as Figure 02 and tied perception and control to Helix, a visual language model trained on large scale data.

Figure’s Instagram and company site emphasized repeatability across varied linens and the claim that no model changes were required beyond data. Public posts and the official news page align on the date and wording regarding reuse of Helix with new data.
