BlackRock Officially Registers as Crypto Asset Firm in the UK

BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager overseeing approximately $10 trillion in assets, has officially registered as a crypto asset firm in the United Kingdom. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has added BlackRock to its list of registered crypto asset firms, a roster that includes notable entities such as Coinbase, PayPal, and Revolut.

The FCA’s registration process is stringent, emphasizing the necessity for comprehensive and high-quality submissions. The regulatory body has previously rejected applications lacking essential components or those of subpar quality. โ€‹

Recently, BlackRock introduced its iShares Bitcoin ETP on the Euronext stock exchanges in Paris and Amsterdam. The launch featured a fee waiver of 10 basis points, effectively reducing the expense ratio to 0.15% until the end of the year.

Manuela Sperandeo, BlackRock’s head of Europe & Middle East iShares Product, highlighted the significance of this development, noting the convergence of established retail investor demand with increasing professional interest. โ€‹

As of now, neither BlackRock nor the FCA have issued official comments regarding BlackRock’s specific registration as a crypto asset firm in the UK.

However, BlackRock International is listed on the FCA’s official registration website under reference number 178638. โ€‹
