Intel and Nvidia have announced a landmark collaboration that could reshape the semiconductor industry, with Nvidia investing $5 billion in Intel to co-develop custom CPUs and GPUs. As part of the deal, Nvidia will purchase Intel common stock at $23.28 per share, making it one of Intel’s largest shareholders with roughly a 4 percent stake.
The move not only strengthens Intel’s financial position but also signals a deeper strategic alignment between the two chip giants at a time when competition in AI and high-performance computing is intensifying.
The partnership focuses on building multiple generations of custom products for both data centers and personal computing. Intel will manufacture specialized x86 CPUs optimized for Nvidia’s AI infrastructure platforms, while also producing x86 system-on-chips that integrate Nvidia’s RTX GPU chiplets for PCs.
This approach brings Nvidia’s GPU leadership together with Intel’s advanced process technology, creating a new class of hardware designed to accelerate workloads from AI training and inference to gaming and consumer applications.
A central piece of the collaboration is Nvidia’s NVLink technology, which will be used to tightly integrate Intel’s CPUs with Nvidia’s GPUs.
