University of Wyoming Establishes Bitcoin Research Institute

The University of Wyoming (UW) has launched the UW Bitcoin Research Institute, the first academic institute focused exclusively on Bitcoin studies. Dr. Bradley Rettler, an Associate Professor of Philosophy and author of “Resistance Money: A Philosophical Case for Bitcoin,” has been appointed as the institute’s inaugural director. The announcement was made at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville.

In a post on LinkedIn, The UW Bitcoin Research Institute stated, “Congratulations to Bradley Rettler on the establishment of the UW Bitcoin Research Institute! The BRI’s focus on high-quality peer-reviewed publications will significantly advance Bitcoin scholarship. At the CBDI, we’re excited to complement the BRI through our applied approach – offering a minor degree, mining bitcoin, facilitating student internship/job placements, forging industry partnerships, and driving Bitcoin project development. Together, we will ensure the University of Wyoming leads in academic institutional support of Bitcoin and its growing industry!”

The institute aims to enhance Bitcoin research quality by creating faculty positions dedicated to Bitcoin studies, rewarding excellent academic research, and encouraging young scholars to explore Bitcoin-related projects. It will also offer workshops and provide peer-reviewed research for journalists, policymakers, and the public. This initiative addresses the current need for more rigorous and accurate academic studies on Bitcoin.
