Bitaxe Overclock Increases Hashrate by 35%, Reduces Energy Consumption by 24% (Mining Engineer Report)

Bitcoin mining performance can be significantly improved with overclocking, especially during colder seasons like fall and winter, when ambient temperatures help regulate heat output.

Overclocking increases a device’s operating frequency and voltage beyond stock settings, enhancing computational power while maintaining safe thermal conditions.

In this case, the Bitaxe 601 Gamma default settings of 525 MHz at 1.15V were increased to 600 MHz at 1.17V, representing a 14.3% increase in clock speed and a 1.7% voltage boost.

As a result, the hash rate has jumped to 1.65 TH/s, which is 35.25% higher than the expected 1.22 TH/s, all while reducing energy consumption to 9.68 J/TH, a 24.56% improvement over the expected 12.83 J/TH.

Key power and heat metrics indicate that overclocking under ideal conditions remains efficient and safe. The miner operates at 15.9W, drawing 5.2V of input power while running at 600 MHz ASIC frequency with a 1.17V measured ASIC voltage.

Temperature control plays a vital role in sustaining performance, and with an ASIC temperature of just 29°C and a voltage regulator temperature of 22°C, the system remains well within optimal limits. The cooling system is also working efficiently, with fan speed set at 35% (5278 RPM), balancing airflow and noise levels.

This data highlights why overclocking is best suited for colder seasons, where lower ambient temperatures naturally assist heat dissipation, allowing higher frequencies and voltage without overheating risks.

The combination of increased hash rate, lower power consumption, and stable temperatures makes winter an optimal time for miners to push their hardware for maximum profitability.
