Clearfield Packs 2,304 Fibers Into 2RU for AI Data Centers

Dense fiber optic Ethernet cabling and compact patch panel inside an AI data center rack

Clearfield has introduced a high-density fiber management panel capable of handling up to 2,304 optical fibers in just 2RU as AI data centers demand more physical network connections in less rack space.

The new NOVA Velocity Panel is designed for top-of-rack fiber preparation, routing and splicing. Clearfield says conventional high-count installations can require up to four technician hours per panel, a workload that can grow into thousands of hours across hyperscale facilities.

This is fiber-optic Ethernet infrastructure, not Cat6-style twisted-pair copper cabling. The platform supports MPO, LC and SC connectors plus high-density VSFF options including MMC, MDC, EBO, SN and SN-MT.

The launch fits the networking transition BitcoinVersus.tech recently covered with Marvell’s push toward 3.2T fiber Ethernet. Faster optical links require increasingly dense physical fiber routing between switches, racks and accelerator clusters.

As AI infrastructure scales, Ethernet switching, optical transceivers, fiber cabling, patch panels and technician installation time are becoming important constraints alongside GPUs, electricity and cooling.
