BlackRock CEO Larry Fink warned Wednesday that a U.S. moratorium on new data-center construction could push the economy into recession because so much current capital spending is tied to AI infrastructure.

Watcher.Guru highlighted Fink’s warning after his October 14 CNBC interview.

Fink told CNBC that “so much of our economy” now depends on the buildout of this capital expenditure. He argued that data centers are supporting construction work, electrical infrastructure and demand for skilled trades.

The warning came the same day BlackRock reported $205 billion of quarterly net inflows and $15.5 trillion in assets under management.

In a prior CNBC interview, Fink discussed the surge of capital flowing into AI infrastructure. This video provides background on the investment thesis behind today’s warning.

The claim remains Fink’s economic judgment, not a settled forecast. Communities and regulators are also weighing higher power demand, grid costs, water use and local impacts.
