How to Replace a Bitmain Control Board + Control Board Overview

Understanding how to replace a control board in Bitcoin mining operations is crucial for maintaining optimal performance and minimizing downtime at a Bitcoin Mining facility.

Control boards are the central hubs that manage communication between the miner’s hardware components, such as hashboards and fans, and their replacement is often necessary due to hardware failures or the need for firmware upgrades. Understanding this process also allows operators to quickly address technical issues, reducing operational disruptions and maintaining consistent mining output.


Bitmain, a leading manufacturer of cryptocurrency mining hardware, offers a range of control boards used in its Antminer series. These control boards are integral to the functioning of mining equipment, managing everything from firmware updates to operational parameters. Bitmain’s control boards are known for their versatility and robustness, supporting various models with differing specifications.

The Bitmain 7007 Control Board (known colloquially as “007”) is a prominent model used in many Antminer products (and it’s also my least favorite of the Bitmain Control board family).

It provides a comprehensive interface for controlling the miner’s hardware components, including hashboards and fans. The 7007 type facilitates easy docking and configuration, ensuring efficient operation across diverse mining setups.

However, the firmware compatibility is limited. It seems that newer firmware is not usually compatible with this particular model.

This control board is essential for miners using models like the Antminer S19 series, offering seamless compatibility and support for the latest mining firmware.

Bitmain 7007 Control Board

Another significant control board variant is the Amlogic series, which is designed to offer advanced processing capabilities for data-heavy operations. This control board is optimized for high-efficiency mining and is compatible with some of Bitmain’s more advanced mining rigs. The Amlogic series supports enhanced firmware customization, allowing miners to optimize performance based on specific needs and environmental conditions.

The BeagleBone control board is another option, known for its adaptability and open-source support. This is actually my favorite control board of the 3. It is popular among developers who prefer to modify and customize mining operations extensively. This board provides flexible firmware options, making it suitable for experimental and customized mining configurations.

Many leading Bitcoin mining companies, such as Foundry Digital, Cipher Mining, and Desiweminer, also develop their proprietary control boards and firmware. These companies tailor their hardware solutions to meet specific performance and efficiency requirements, often integrating unique features that cater to large-scale operations. These custom solutions provide enhanced control and monitoring capabilities, ensuring optimal performance and reliability in various mining environments.
