Vertiv is expanding its liquid-cooling field services in Europe, the Middle East and Africa through an agreement to acquire Ireland-based King Environmental Services, a specialist in fluid management, commissioning and load testing for high-density data centers.

The September 24 agreement matters because liquid cooling is no longer only a rack-level hardware problem. As AI servers push heat density higher, the condition of the coolant loop, pipework, filtration, water chemistry and flow balance can determine whether expensive compute hardware actually operates at its designed thermal envelope.

Vertiv adds liquid-cooling field expertise in EMEA

Vertiv announced that King Environmental Services will add fluid-system preparation, flushing, filtration, water treatment, commissioning, performance validation, thermal load testing and electrical load testing to its regional capabilities. KES is headquartered near Dublin and also operates from Frankfurt.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed, and Vertiv said the transaction is not expected to be material to its financial results. An SEC Form 8-K also records the definitive acquisition agreement.

Why coolant quality becomes an uptime issue

Direct-to-chip liquid cooling moves heat away from CPUs, GPUs and accelerators through a liquid circuit rather than relying entirely on room air. That raises the importance of the facility-side cooling loop. Vertiv notes that contamination, trapped air, corrosion, incorrect chemistry and flow imbalance can reduce heat-transfer performance and contribute to equipment degradation.

KES works at the transition between construction and live operation. Its testing and balancing work is intended to verify that cooling loops are clean, properly conditioned and capable of handling the specified thermal load before production compute is placed at risk.

The thermal chain is becoming infrastructure

The acquisition follows Vertiv’s 2025 purchase of PurgeRite, which established a similar fluid-management capability in North America. KES extends that model into EMEA and gives Vertiv field execution capacity alongside its coolant distribution units, heat-rejection equipment, power systems and other data-center infrastructure.

This is relevant beyond AI. Bitcoin mining operators have years of experience designing around dense electrical loads and aggressive cooling requirements, including hydro and immersion systems. As mining campuses increasingly overlap with AI and HPC infrastructure, commissioning discipline around pumps, heat exchangers, water quality, flow, leak detection and heat rejection becomes a shared engineering concern.
