EnergyX Signs $2B Lithium Deal With Trafigura

Direct lithium extraction facility processing brine through membrane systems and industrial piping near salt flats

EnergyX signed a $2 billion, 10-year lithium supply agreement with commodities trader Trafigura Monday, giving its direct-lithium-extraction projects in Texas and Chile a major commercial outlet.

Reuters reported that the binding take-or-pay agreement covers 100,000 metric tons of lithium, split evenly between lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate. Production is expected to begin in Chile in 2028 and Texas in 2029.

A community discussion tracks EnergyX as its Texas direct-lithium-extraction project moves from demonstration toward commercial production.

EnergyX’s GET-Lit platform uses direct lithium extraction rather than traditional evaporation ponds, combining membranes, adsorbents and solvent-based processes to recover lithium from brines. Trafigura will take 33% of planned U.S. output and 66% of Chilean supply under the agreement.

The deal follows BitcoinVersus.Tech coverage of Aramco and NESR’s lithium-from-brine project, GM-backed lithium mining investment and next-generation battery demand from AI infrastructure.

Editor’s Note: Project timing and output targets remain forward-looking until commercial production begins.
