IREN’s unnamed “leading frontier AI lab” customer may be Anthropic. Barron’s reported October 12, citing The Information, that Anthropic has entered a multi-year cloud-services agreement with IREN as it accelerates data-center capacity for Claude.
Confirmed: IREN disclosed in its August 27 SEC-filed FY26 results that it had signed a new multi-year AI Cloud contract with a “leading frontier AI lab.” The filing did not name the customer. It also said 2026 capacity was largely sold out, with about $4 billion of contracted annualized run-rate revenue tied to 2026 capacity and roughly $1 billion operating at the time.
Reported, not confirmed: neither IREN nor Anthropic has publicly identified Anthropic as that customer. Today’s reporting therefore narrows the mystery but does not make the attribution official.
The mining connection is significant. IREN’s FY26 filing showed $578.2 million of Bitcoin-mining revenue for the year, but Q4 AI Cloud revenue reached $70.5 million, slightly above mining’s $66.7 million. The company also recorded large non-cash impairments as it decommissioned mining hardware and redirected powered sites toward GPU deployments.
If Anthropic is confirmed, it would add another major AI customer to an infrastructure platform already serving Microsoft and other AI developers. It would also reinforce a larger mining-industry trend: the most valuable asset at some Bitcoin mines may now be the power connection and data-center footprint, not the ASIC fleet.
