GitHub has added Google’s Gemini 4 Argon to Copilot. In its October 13 changelog, GitHub said the frontier model is now generally available to Copilot Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise users, with a gradual rollout through the model picker.
Argon can be selected in Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, the Copilot coding agent, the GitHub Copilot app, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode and Eclipse. GitHub says its early testing found Argon solved more tasks than previous Gemini models across every coding benchmark it evaluated, with the largest gains in Copilot CLI. Those are GitHub’s own test results, not independent benchmarks.
The Copilot launch follows Google’s broader Argon release, which BitcoinVersus.Tech covered earlier today. Reuters reported that Google opened Argon globally to developers and businesses on October 13 after an earlier restricted cybersecurity rollout.
The integration also extends GitHub’s broader push toward agentic development. We recently tracked GitHub rewriting Copilot’s 430,000-line runtime in Rust with AI agents and its ReviewBench benchmark for AI code review. Argon adds another high-end model option inside that same toolchain.
Sam Witteveen tests Gemini 4 Argon on its public release day, including coding and agentic workflows.
