The Julia community on Reddit flagged a notable programming-language move Tuesday: Julia is back in the TIOBE Top 20.

Julia users reacted to the language’s return to the TIOBE Top 20, while some questioned how much weight to give the ranking methodology.

The official October 2026 TIOBE index confirms Julia at No. 18 with a 0.88% rating, up from No. 30 and 0.46% one year ago. TIOBE says Julia last reached the Top 20 three years ago and points to demand for numerical-computing languages that combine high-level usability with strong performance.

For context, Python remains No. 1 at 19.23%, C++ is No. 3 at 8.87%, and Rust is No. 10 at 1.44%. BitcoinVersus.Tech recently covered Python 3.15, the fundamentals of C++, and Rust 1.99.

The Julia Programming Language channel explains the language’s high-level syntax, multiple dispatch, numerical computing tools and performance goals.

The ranking needs an important caveat. TIOBE is a popularity indicator built partly from search-engine results, not a census of deployed software. This month it also began adding Mandarin Chinese search terms, with those terms ultimately weighted at 44.2% of English terms. That methodology change means Julia’s jump should not be read as a clean measurement of adoption growth by itself.
