Bitcoin Verse of the Day — October 14, 2026

“Bitcoin is, very simply, separation of money and state.”

Alex Gladstein

Alex Gladstein gave this line during a 2023 episode of The Great Simplification. The official transcript places it at about 1:25:17, during a discussion about digital cash, privacy and peer-to-peer payments. The original video is embedded below.

Gladstein’s phrase is a political and monetary argument, not a claim that Bitcoin removes governments from economic life. Taxes, regulation and legal systems still exist around Bitcoin. His point is narrower: Bitcoin’s issuance rules and transaction network are not operated by a central bank, and users can transact directly over an open protocol.

That framing connects with earlier BitcoinVersus coverage of Bitcoin as freedom money, Bitcoin and freedom of speech, and Bitcoin payments in Africa through Machankura. Gladstein has continued making the broader human-rights case for Bitcoin through the Human Rights Foundation.
