Ask YouTube Expands Across Web, Mobile and TV

YouTube says its conversational Ask YouTube search experience is now available to U.S. viewers across web, mobile and TVs. In an October 12 product update, YouTube said the tool lets viewers ask complex questions, refine them with follow-ups and receive interactive results built around relevant videos rather than relying only on a conventional search-results list.

The expansion turns YouTube search into something closer to an AI-guided discovery layer. A viewer can ask for help finding a tutorial, researching a topic or narrowing down recommendations, then continue the conversation without restarting the search. YouTube says the same system is also moving deeper into the watch experience, including planned support while viewing Shorts and live streams.

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has previously summarized Ask YouTube as part of the company’s broader push toward conversational discovery in this X post.

The feature has been expanding in stages. TechCrunch reported in September that YouTube was also positioning Ask YouTube as a shopping companion, allowing natural-language product questions to sit alongside the platform’s video-discovery tools. That gives the product a wider role than simply locating a clip: it can increasingly organize, explain and recommend content around a user’s intent.

The broader direction also connects with other AI changes across video and search. BitcoinVersus.Tech recently covered YouTube Music adding AI labels, Google opening frontier AI models to European researchers, and our look at the mobile features that changed how people use connected devices.

The important limitation is geographic availability. YouTube’s current announcement is specifically for viewers in the United States, and the company has not presented the rollout as a simultaneous global launch. For now, the change is best understood as YouTube moving search from keywords toward a conversational interface across more screens, while gradually extending the same AI layer into the viewing experience itself.
