Sazmining has opened access to Block’s Proto immersion hashboards for individual and institutional Bitcoin miners, moving a modular mining architecture that had largely been aimed at industrial operators into a smaller-ticket ownership model.
According to the company announcement distributed through Bitcoin Magazine, each hashboard is configured for roughly 200 TH/s at about 15 J/TH. Buyers own the hardware while Sazmining handles deployment, monitoring and maintenance at a U.S. facility. Bitcoin produced by the hardware is sent directly to the owner’s wallet.
The $1,397 number is a starting payment, not a complete cost picture
Sazmining is advertising access from $1,397 down with 0% financing over 18 months. That number should not be read as the confirmed all-in purchase price. The public announcement says final pricing, terms and applicable sales tax are shown at checkout, so the total hardware cost and ongoing hosting economics depend on the actual order.
That distinction matters because mining profitability is still driven by the familiar variables: machine efficiency, uptime, network difficulty, hashprice, power cost, pool fees, maintenance and Bitcoin’s market price. A lower upfront payment changes financing access; it does not eliminate those operating risks.
Proto is selling the hashboard as the upgrade unit
The more important engineering story is the form factor. Proto’s broader Rig architecture was built around replaceable hashboards so operators can upgrade compute without replacing every chassis, fan, power component and mechanical part at the same time. Block described that modular strategy when it launched Proto Rig and Proto Fleet in 2025, positioning the system as durable infrastructure rather than a disposable mining appliance. Block’s launch announcement said the design was intended to improve repairability, upgradeability and hardware longevity.
BitcoinVersus.Tech has tracked that shift for years. Block first exposed its modular mining direction through its earlier MDK hashboard work, later expanded its mining push, and is now trying to turn the board itself into the reusable system’s core replacement component.
15 J/TH is competitive, but it is not the efficiency frontier
At roughly 15 J/TH, the announced Proto immersion board is materially more efficient than many older fleets still operating today, but it does not lead the market on pure joules per terahash. BitcoinVersus.Tech’s current efficiency ranking places the best announced machines well below that figure, including hardware approaching the 9 J/TH range.
Proto’s argument is therefore not only about peak efficiency. It is also about serviceability, modular replacement and extending the useful life of the surrounding infrastructure. That is a different value proposition from simply chasing the lowest J/TH number every generation.
Retail-scale ownership could test whether modular mining travels downstream
The new Sazmining arrangement is significant because it tests whether a design created for industrial deployment can make sense at much smaller ownership sizes. Sazmining says it will operate the boards, handle maintenance and route mined Bitcoin directly to customers, with systems expected to energize between November and December 2026.
That could reduce the operational barrier for buyers who do not want to build their own immersion system, cooling loop, power distribution, networking and facility controls. But it also means the buyer’s economics depend heavily on the host’s actual uptime, fees and power arrangements. BitcoinVersus.Tech recently examined the same pressure from the opposite direction in how rising network difficulty can compress miner revenue.
The hardware itself is real, the ownership model is now being offered, and the modular approach is technically interesting. The open question is whether individual buyers will ultimately value replaceable hashboards enough to offset the gap between Proto’s roughly 15 J/TH efficiency and the newest efficiency leaders.
