Solidigm Weighs U.S. NAND Factory as AI Demand Surges

Semiconductor fabrication facility with NAND flash memory wafers and AI data center infrastructure

SK Hynix subsidiary Solidigm is considering building a U.S. NAND flash memory factory, with upstate New York emerging as a leading candidate, according to Reuters.

The potential factory comes as enormous investment in AI data centers tightens global memory supplies. NAND provides the persistent storage used throughout servers, computers and data-center storage systems, making memory capacity another increasingly important part of the AI infrastructure buildout.

A U.S. facility could also reduce Solidigm’s dependence on its sole NAND production site in Dalian, China. The proposal remains under discussion, and both SK Hynix and Solidigm say no final decision has been made.

The development fits the infrastructure pressure BitcoinVersus.tech recently highlighted in the projected 33 GW U.S. data-center power shortfall. AI expansion is driving demand across the entire physical computing stack, from electricity and cooling to accelerators, memory and storage.
