GitHub CodeQL 2.27.2 Improves Security Scanning

Software developer examining code security findings on two monitors

GitHub released CodeQL 2.27.2 on October 7 and detailed its changes October 9. The update improves security analysis for C++, Rust, Go and JavaScript, including a new parser for C++ std::regex expressions.

According to GitHub’s announcement, the default analysis suite now includes 498 security queries covering 170 Common Weakness Enumerations (CWEs). The extended suite adds 131 queries covering 32 more CWEs.

For Rust, CodeQL improves tracing through asynchronous await blocks and adds models for TLS libraries. Go analysis recognizes the newer github.com/coder/websocket import path. JavaScript analysis better understands Hapi request routing.

One limitation matters for Mac developers: GitHub says traced CodeQL builds are not supported with Xcode 27 because Apple no longer ships the multi-architecture binaries those modes require. The full release notes also document breaking changes to Go control-flow graphs for custom query authors.

This follows BitcoinVersus.Tech’s coverage of GitHub’s ReviewBench, Rust 1.99 and AI code-review bottlenecks. Better static analysis can flag more potential vulnerabilities, but it does not prove software is secure.
