Newegg now lets U.S. shoppers buy eligible products directly inside Google’s Gemini app and AI Mode in Search without leaving the conversation.
Newegg announced the integration on October 8. Checkout is powered by Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol, or UCP. Shoppers can ask about specifications and use cases, compare products, then pay with Google Pay inside Google’s interface. Newegg remains the merchant of record and handles fulfillment and customer support.
This moves AI shopping one step beyond recommendations. Google describes UCP as an open standard for commerce between platforms, agents and businesses, covering the path from discovery through checkout and post-purchase support. Google’s implementation guide says merchants can use a native checkout path or hand a cart back to their own site.
Google introduced UCP earlier this year as part of its agentic-commerce push.
Newegg says Google joins several AI surfaces where its catalog already appears. The retailer has a ChatGPT app, has supported in-conversation checkout on Perplexity, and runs its own Celeste AI shopping assistant.
There are limits to what is publicly known. Newegg did not disclose how many products are currently eligible, how many orders have used UCP, or whether the new checkout flow is improving conversion. Google also says UCP checkout remains available only to select participating merchants.
The launch fits a broader shift from AI answering questions to taking actions. BitcoinVersus.Tech has covered AI’s growing advertising layer, OpenAI’s always-on Dots agents, and Google Cloud’s Gemini enterprise agent.
