Cloudflare Adds WAF Rules for TanStack and Atlassian Flaws

Cybersecurity engineers monitoring web application firewall protections in a modern security operations center.

Cloudflare added two new blocking detections to its managed Web Application Firewall on October 12, 2026, covering newly disclosed flaws in TanStack and Atlassian software.

The first rule targets CVE-2026-102989, a reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in TanStack Start. Cloudflare says an unauthenticated attacker could use the flaw to inject malicious script into pages viewed by users. The new managed rule is set to Block. TanStack separately released patched packages and advised affected developers to upgrade and redeploy.

TanStack’s official account announced the CVE-2026-102989 security fix and urged affected users to upgrade and redeploy.

The second rule targets CVE-2026-21589, an arbitrary file access flaw affecting multiple Atlassian Data Center products, including Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Crowd, Crucible and Fisheye. Atlassian rates the issue Critical at CVSS 9.3. Exploitation requires knowing the exact target file name and path, but affected installations still require immediate attention.

Cloudflare’s update does not replace vendor patching. Atlassian recommends moving to fixed versions, while its advisory also lists a WAF rule as a temporary mitigation when patching cannot happen immediately.

For readers following the infrastructure side, BitcoinVersus.Tech has previously explained reverse proxies, HTTPS and Cloudflare’s post-quantum certificate work. Those layers matter because a WAF sits in the request path and can block known malicious patterns before traffic reaches the origin server.

Cloudflare’s official WAF product demo explains how managed rules filter web attacks such as cross-site scripting and file-inclusion-style threats.

The confirmed news today is Cloudflare’s new protection. There is no claim here that the WAF rules eliminate the underlying software vulnerabilities; patching remains the primary fix.
