Saudi Arabia Can Power AI Data Centers Faster, Siemens Energy Says

Large power transformers being manufactured in a Saudi industrial facility with high-voltage grid infrastructure and a data center in the distance

Siemens Energy CEO Christian Bruch says Saudi Arabia can connect AI data centers to electricity faster than the United States, arguing that speed-to-power is becoming a major competitive advantage in the AI infrastructure race.

In an October 12 interview reported by Arab News via Asharq Bloomberg, Bruch said even a six-month difference in energizing a data center can matter as AI capacity expands. The comparison is his assessment, not an independently verified ranking of U.S. and Saudi interconnection times.

The hardware buildout is concrete. Siemens Energy is investing about $150 million to expand its Dammam site by roughly 60,000 square meters and add a factory for large power transformers. The project is expected to create about 130–150 jobs and supply equipment for Saudi Arabia’s 380-kilovolt transmission grid. Siemens Energy says its Dammam footprint is scaling to about 75,000 square meters with more than 500 employees.

The story connects directly to BitcoinVersus coverage of how substations move and protect grid power, the full data-center electrical power path, and record power demand from AI and crypto data centers.

Reuters previously highlighted how AI-driven demand is lifting Siemens Energy’s gas-turbine and grid businesses.
