Microchip Adds 64-Lane PCIe 6 Switch for AI Data Centers

High-density data center rack with accelerator cards, storage bays and high-speed networking hardware

Microchip expanded its data-center portfolio Monday with a new Switchtec PCIe 6.0 Low-Lane-Count switch designed for AI, storage and edge systems where space and power are limited.

According to Microchip’s October 12 announcement, the switch supports up to 64 PCIe Gen 6 lanes, 32 ports and x2, x4, x8 and x16 bifurcation. Integrated DMA allows peer-to-peer transfers with less host CPU involvement.
