Rittal and Bosch are bringing an 800-volt DC power architecture into AI data centers, combining racks, direct liquid cooling and power delivery in one compact system. Rittal unveiled the design October 12 at the 2026 OCP Global Summit.
Rittal says its RiMatrix HPC architecture can place more than 1 MW of IT power within a few square meters. The system pairs OCP racks with a central coolant distribution unit and a Power Sidecar using Bosch power electronics. The sidecar is designed to scale to 2 MW.
The engineering logic is straightforward: higher voltage can move more power at the same current, which can reduce conductor size and losses while supporting denser racks. NVIDIA has separately been pushing the industry toward 800 VDC power for future AI factories, putting Rittal and Bosch inside a broader shift away from low-voltage rack distribution.
BitcoinVersus.Tech has already tracked this transition through LITEON’s 1 MW 800V power rack, Atomic Machines’ PrimeSwitch for 800V AI racks, and Microchip and Navitas’ 800V-to-6V conversion work.
Rittal says its water-based CDU delivers more than 1 MW of cooling and uses modular units that can be replaced during operation. Bosch says the power electronics build on 800-volt technology it has produced at scale for electric vehicles since 2023.
The important distinction is that this is an infrastructure architecture, not a claim that every AI rack is suddenly moving to 800 VDC. Rittal is showing a development demonstrator at OCP, while the industry is still standardizing the power path from grid to rack to accelerator.
