OpenAI now offers an OpenAI Developers plugin inside ChatGPT, built by OpenAI and listed under Engineering & IT. The official page says it can help developers build AI apps and agents, review existing API integrations, scaffold ChatGPT apps and troubleshoot API errors. OpenAI marks the plugin as Interactive, Read and Write; actual access still depends on plan, connection and workspace permissions.

The feature set goes beyond coding advice. Developers can use current OpenAI guidance for API-key setup, prompts and integration troubleshooting; build multimodal experiences with voice and image models; create GPT Live voice agents; and design agent workflows. OpenAI’s newer Agents API adds a managed Codex harness for orchestration, long-running sessions and context management, while OpenAI-hosted sandboxes can run code, work with files and produce artifacts.

OpenAI Developers announced the Agents API public beta on September 10, 2026.

For developers following OpenAI’s move toward always-on agents, our look at agent harness engineering, and Unity’s Codex development skills, the plugin brings official guidance closer to the implementation loop. It does not make every deployment automatic: credentials, permissions, security boundaries and production choices still remain with the developer.
