AI Developer Rebuilds Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Developer working across document, spreadsheet, presentation and code interfaces, illustrating AI-built Office-style software.

Polymarket posted on October 14 that a “vibecoder” had reverse-engineered Microsoft Office with AI and released free alternatives to Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The core story is real, but the wording needs one correction: the ArtCraft team describes WordCraft, GridCraft and DeckCraft as clean-room reimplementations written from scratch in Rust, not decompiled Microsoft binaries.

Polymarket’s October 14 post helped push the Office-style rebuilds into wider circulation.

WordCraft targets the familiar Word workflow and DOCX files. GridCraft recreates an Excel-style spreadsheet environment with formulas, charts and PivotTables. DeckCraft is the PowerPoint-style presentation app. The repositories are open source, cross-platform and still early enough that compatibility, stability and real-world document fidelity remain important tests. Futurism reported on the project today as the latest extension of the same AI-assisted software-building wave.

A recent video walkthrough shows the Microsoft Office-style apps built in the broader ArtCraft project.

The bigger signal is not that Office has already been replaced. It is that vibe coding is moving from small demos toward larger desktop applications. BitcoinVersus.Tech has also tracked AI-built apps and tools that let AI coding assistants read live technical documentation. The hard part now is less “can AI generate the interface?” and more whether these projects can survive years of edge cases, file-format quirks, security review and maintenance.
