Google is making it easier to turn an AI-generated idea into a private Android app that runs on your own phone.

In a Google Play update published October 13, the company said users can build a custom Android app with Google AI Studio and launch it on their own device through Google Play using a standard Google account. No developer account is required for this private use case.

Android users discuss the new private-app path and clarify that these projects do not automatically enter the public Play Store catalog.

The feature starts rolling out to adults in select markets, including the United States. Google says these personal apps remain private and separate from public Play listings. Sharing with a small circle of friends and family is planned for later.

TechCrunch reports that the change removes a major friction point for people experimenting with AI-generated Android apps: they no longer need to publicly list a project just to install and use it themselves.

Public distribution is still a different step. If a personal app grows beyond private use, Google says the creator must move to a professional developer account and pass the normal Trust & Safety and quality checks.
