Keysight Expands 1.6T Link Testing

Keysight has expanded its 1.6T Ethernet interconnect testing lineup with FITS-16CH, a 2RU system built to check the error performance of high-speed copper and optical links before they reach large AI data-center deployments.

In an October 14 announcement, Keysight said FITS-16CH provides 16 independent transmit and 16 independent receive channels for 53 Gb/s, 106 Gb/s and 212.5 Gb/s PAM4 signaling. The system can measure real-time bit-error-rate performance and forward-error-correction behavior across two groups of eight transmit and eight receive channels.

The company says the platform supports active electrical cables, active copper cables, direct-attach copper, active optical cables and several optical-transceiver types. Keysight’s product documentation lists model 941-1030 and says the chassis can be used for product development, quality assurance and manufacturing tests.

A recent networking discussion highlights the broader 1.6T challenge: signal integrity, cabling, optics, interoperability and cooling all have to scale with raw link speed.

The timing matters because the surrounding ecosystem is moving quickly toward denser 1.6T links. BitcoinVersus.Tech has recently covered Keysight’s 1.6T link-recovery work, Marvell’s longer-reach 1.6T copper links and UfiSpace’s 1.6T AI switch. FITS-16CH addresses a different part of that chain: measuring whether the physical interconnects can hold their error margins at the lane speeds those systems require.

Samtec demonstrates 224 Gb/s PAM4 interconnect hardware, providing a practical look at the signaling class behind emerging 1.6T Ethernet links.

FITS-16CH is test equipment, not a bandwidth upgrade by itself. Its value will depend on how well it helps engineers find marginal cables, modules and lane behavior before those components are deployed at scale.
