Marvell has launched a new generation of AI-rack connectivity chips that pushes 1.6 Tbps active electrical cable links beyond six meters while adding a separate 3.2 Tbps retimer for on-board and backplane connections.
The October 13 announcement introduces the second-generation Alaska A 1.6T AEC DSP and Alaska E 3.2T protocol-aware retimer. Both target 224G-per-lane AI scale-up networks.
The copper reach doubles
Marvell says the 3nm Alaska A chip supports eight 224G PAM4 lanes, consumes 12.8 W and can carry 1.6T links for more than six meters—roughly double the first-generation reach. The company also claims an 8 W power saving versus comparable 5nm designs using its stated test assumptions.
The Alaska E retimer delivers 3.2 Tbps through 16 lanes of 224G PAM4 and supports Ethernet, UALink and ESUN. Marvell positions it for short, extremely high-bandwidth links between XPUs, switches and backplanes inside dense AI systems.
The chips are now sampling to customers. These are vendor specifications and product claims, not independent benchmark results. Marvell is demonstrating the parts at OCP Global Summit 2026.
