ChatGPT Voice Gets GPT-Live-1.1 and 13 New Voices

OpenAI began rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 on October 15, 2026, updating ChatGPT Voice with 13 new voices, stronger multilingual performance and more natural conversational behavior. The rollout also includes GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, a smaller model in the same voice family.

According to OpenAI’s ChatGPT release notes, the update is designed to produce more natural accents across languages and to vary the short phrases ChatGPT uses while it is searching. OpenAI specifically lists new voice options for French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish, plus a new English voice called Bubbie. Voice availability can vary by region and account.

The update goes beyond adding voices

OpenAI says GPT-Live-1.1 improves steerability and makes delegation feel more natural. That matters because ChatGPT Voice is increasingly being used for more than spoken question-and-answer sessions. The company has been building voice into the same broader assistant experience that can search, use connected tools and work with information inside a conversation.

The underlying direction began with GPT-Live-1 earlier this year. Axios described the first GPT-Live generation as part of a wider push toward real-time conversational AI that can listen and respond with less rigid turn-taking. GPT-Live-1.1 is an incremental follow-up rather than a replacement for the entire ChatGPT model stack, but voice is becoming a more independent part of that stack.

BitcoinVersus.Tech previously explained what happens inside an AI data center when you ask ChatGPT a question and covered ChatGPT Space as a shared AI workspace. The same shift toward persistent, multimodal interaction helps explain why voice quality now matters as much as raw text generation for many everyday users.

A practical change for multilingual users

The most visible improvement may be pronunciation and accent handling. Voice systems can be technically correct while still sounding stiff, generic or poorly matched to the language being spoken. OpenAI is explicitly targeting that gap with this release, especially in French, German, Hindi, Mexican Spanish, Korean and Japanese.

The company says the update is rolling out to ChatGPT users now, while API access is expected later. Users can select available voices under Settings → Voice. The exact list may differ by account or region during the rollout.

For people experimenting with the updated experience, the same prompting discipline still applies. BitcoinVersus.Tech’s new Top 7 ChatGPT prompt commands guide focuses on clear reusable instructions rather than supposed secret command words—a useful distinction whether the prompt is typed or spoken.
