Xiver Adds ASML DUV Lithography

Dutch specialty foundry Xiver has acquired an ASML PAS 5500 deep-ultraviolet lithography system as it expands manufacturing for photonics and microsystems. In its October 13 announcement, Xiver said the DUV tool will complement its installed i-line equipment and improve fine patterning, alignment and dimensional control for specialty devices.

The PAS 5500 is an older ASML platform, but that does not make it obsolete for every application. Xiver says the new tool enables double-sided wafer patterning and sub-micron 3D micromachining, capabilities relevant to photonic devices, MEMS and other specialty processes that do not require leading-edge logic nodes. That distinction is useful alongside BitcoinVersus.Tech’s Top 7 Semiconductor Manufacturing Machines and our coverage of ASML’s current AI-driven demand.

ASML’s archival video explains the PAS 5500 platform and the modular lithography architecture that made the family long-lived.

The acquisition is part of a larger capacity expansion. ABN AMRO said it is providing €28 million in senior debt financing to support Xiver’s manufacturing growth. The combination of financing and installed lithography capacity points to a practical market for mature equipment in high-value specialty fabrication.

Photonics is becoming increasingly important as computing systems push more data through optical links. BitcoinVersus.Tech recently covered live co-packaged optics for AI infrastructure. Xiver’s move shows the manufacturing side of that trend: not every optical device needs the newest EUV scanner, but it still needs repeatable lithography, alignment and volume-production discipline.
