NBA 2K27 vs. EA Sports FC 27 by the Numbers

NBA 2K27 outranked EA Sports FC 27 in September U.S. game spending, yet FC 27 attracted more than three times as many concurrent Steam players at their respective 2026 peaks. The split reveals how sports-gaming culture looks different through a sales ledger, a PC activity chart and player reviews.

Circana ranked NBA 2K27 second in September U.S. full-game dollar sales and FC 27 third. NBA 2K27 also climbed to No. 1 year-to-date through September. Those positions measure dollar rankings rather than unit sales; Circana includes digital point-of-sale actuals for NBA 2K27 but projections for FC 27 digital sales. The rankings do not disclose the revenue gap.

Launch timing complicates direct comparisons. NBA 2K27 launched September 4, while FC 27 launched worldwide September 25, giving the basketball game a longer period in Circana’s reporting window. A domestic ordinal ranking cannot establish which franchise is bigger globally.

FC 27 peaks 3.08 times higher on Steam

SteamDB recorded FC 27’s all-time peak at 96,232 concurrent players on October 4. NBA 2K27 peaked at 31,232 on September 5. FC 27 therefore reached 3.08 times the simultaneous Steam participation, a difference of 65,000. Peak concurrency is neither lifetime copies sold nor monthly active users, and excludes consoles and non-Steam PC launchers.

Both titles reach different sports cultures. EA’s FC 27 features Football Ultimate Team, Career Mode and The Grounds, a social football environment. NBA 2K27 includes MyCAREER, MyTEAM and MyNBA, spanning basketball progression, roster construction and franchise simulation.

Steam reviews show a post-launch decline

The review record presents another story. According to FC 27 monthly Steam review cohorts, 54% of September reviews were positive, falling to 45% in October. NBA 2K27 moved from 51% to 47%. The declines of nine percentage points and four points concern monthly reviewers, not the satisfaction rate of every player.

On November 8, SteamDB listed 13,631 FC 27 reviews and 4,652 NBA 2K27 reviews. A larger review sample does not establish more owners: publishing a review is voluntary, and Steam represents only one section of the games market. Both received Mixed overall Steam assessments near 48% positive.

Strengths and weaknesses of both franchises

NBA 2K27’s strengths: Better measured September U.S. spending rank, No. 1 2026 year-to-date rank, and established basketball management and career modes. Limitations: Smaller observed Steam concurrency peak and polarized PC reviews. Earlier BitcoinVersus.Tech reporting examined NBA 2K27 franchise simulation and an NBA 2K28 improvement wishlist.

FC 27’s strengths: Larger peak Steam audience, larger Steam reviewer sample and broad multiplayer football culture. EA says The Grounds can bring up to 100 players into its social spaces. Limitations: Lower September U.S. dollar-sales rank and a steeper decline in positive monthly Steam reviews. Those indicators cannot establish console satisfaction.

Why the charts use different methods

The SmartChart atlas guided chart selection. Ranked dots compare ordinal sales positions without inventing dollar figures; zero-based columns compare actual player peaks; a September–October slope plot tracks review sentiment; a lollipop diagram reveals differing review sample sizes. Unsupported global sales shares and cross-platform engagement charts were rejected.

Related comparisons include BitcoinVersus.Tech’s sports franchise-mode ranking and football video-game review.

Verdict

NBA 2K27 leads the measured U.S. dollar-sales ranking; FC 27 leads peak Steam engagement. Neither wins Steam sentiment convincingly. Determining a global cultural winner would require comparable worldwide sales, console usage, purchasing behavior and matched observation periods.

Editor’s Note

All figures identify their units, source and reporting period. Circana sales ranks are ordinal and cannot yield percentage sales differences. SteamDB records PC-platform concurrency and review totals, while charts.game reports monthly review cohorts. The cover is an original illustration, not a gameplay screenshot.
