Alibaba Targets 20 GW of Data Center Capacity by 2032

Alibaba is planning one of the world’s largest AI infrastructure expansions, targeting more than 20 gigawatts of global data-center capacity by 2032.

CEO Eddie Wu announced the target at Alibaba Cloud’s Apsara conference as the company prepares for rapidly rising demand for artificial-intelligence computing. Twenty gigawatts puts the announcement firmly in power-grid territory: the AI race increasingly depends not only on models and GPUs, but also on substations, cooling systems, networking and access to enormous amounts of electricity.

The infrastructure target arrives alongside Alibaba’s new Zhenwu V900 AI accelerator. Alibaba says the processor delivers roughly three times the performance of its predecessor and can be connected in clusters containing as many as 500,000 chips. Commercial production is expected in early 2027.

Alibaba is also developing future Qwen models ranging from 5 trillion to 10 trillion parameters. Together, the announcements reveal a vertically integrated strategy spanning AI models, proprietary silicon and the physical data centers required to operate them.

The 20 GW target also reinforces a trend BitcoinVersus.tech has followed across AI and data-center infrastructure: access to electrical capacity is becoming one of the defining constraints of next-generation computing.
