Clearfield Packs 2,304 Fibers Into 2RU for AI Data Centers

Clearfield NOVA Velocity high-density fiber panel supporting 2304 fibers in 2RU for AI data centers

Clearfield has introduced NOVA Velocity, a high-density fiber management panel capable of handling as many as 2,304 fibers in only 2RU for increasingly dense AI data centers.

The Sept. 24 launch targets a physical-layer problem that grows with GPU clusters: thousands of optical connections have to be prepared, routed, spliced, documented and maintained without consuming rack space needed for compute and networking hardware.

2,304 fibers in two rack units

NOVA Velocity consolidates high-count fiber splicing and management at the top of the rack. Clearfield says conventional approaches can require technicians to distribute fibers across several panels, with preparation, routing, management and splicing taking as long as four technician-hours per panel.

Across thousands of hyperscale racks, those hours can become a commissioning bottleneck. The patent-pending panel was developed after a major hyperscale customer and Southern FiberLink Solutions brought Clearfield the installation problem.

The embedded Clearfield video is in English and covers the NOVA high-density fiber platform used for modern data-center connectivity.

MPO, LC, SC and smaller connectors

The platform supports traditional MPO, LC and SC connectors as well as very-small-form-factor options including MMC, MDC, EBO, SN and SN-MT. That flexibility matters as operators increase Ethernet and optical density without surrendering additional rack units.

Clearfield says the modular design can be installed as a complete system or expanded panel by panel as infrastructure requirements change.

AI scaling reaches Layer 1

Accelerator performance gets most of the attention, but dense AI clusters also depend on the physical IT layer. Every additional optical path has to be terminated, protected, labeled and serviced. Higher fiber density therefore affects installation labor and how quickly new compute capacity can enter production.

The launch complements BitcoinVersus.tech coverage of Marvell’s 2 nm optics for 3.2T AI networks, Huawei’s near-packaged optics in Atlas 960E and Giga Computing’s 700 kW GAIFA AI factory.
