SK hynix has launched SK hynix Ventures in Silicon Valley, expanding its corporate investment strategy beyond memory chips and into the wider AI infrastructure stack.
The new corporate venture capital brand will target AI computing, data centers, system software and optical interconnects. SK hynix formally introduced the initiative at its inaugural Ventures Day in Silicon Valley, bringing together company executives, venture investors and AI infrastructure startups.
SK hynix’s official X account shows the company’s broader push to become a full-stack AI-memory supplier, including HBM and next-generation memory technologies designed for NVIDIA-class AI systems.
The company says it has operated corporate venture investing since 2015 across the U.S., China, Israel and Japan. Those activities previously emphasized identifying emerging semiconductor technology and new business opportunities. SK hynix Ventures broadens that mandate toward collaborative development across the AI ecosystem.
Optical interconnect is especially notable. As AI clusters grow, moving data efficiently between accelerators, memory and racks is becoming a major power and bandwidth challenge. BitcoinVersus.tech recently covered 1.6T optical engines and the move toward 6.4T fiber links, illustrating the infrastructure layer SK hynix now wants its venture portfolio to address.
The embedded Six Five Media interview with SK Group Chairman Tae-won Chey is in English and discusses SK hynix’s AI strategy, memory investment and AI data-center expansion. Voice translation is therefore not required.
SK hynix says the venture organization will seek companies with high growth potential while using strategic investment and technical cooperation to strengthen future AI infrastructure. The company’s own announcement also says its prior venture investments have produced returns exceeding twice cumulative investment to date.
