7 Bitcoin Miners With the Best Hashrate-to-Weight Ratio

Hashrate usually gets compared with watts, dollars, or joules per terahash. Weight is another useful engineering metric: how much SHA-256 throughput fits into each kilogram of hardware.

Using published manufacturer hashrate and net-weight figures for model variants we could verify, these seven machines had the highest ratios. The calculation is simple: TH/s ÷ net kilograms.

  1. Antminer S23 Hyd. — 580 TH/s, 13.0 kg — 44.6 TH/kg
  2. Antminer S23 XP Hyd. — 600 TH/s, 15.8 kg — 38.0 TH/kg
  3. Antminer S21 XP Hyd. — 473 TH/s, 13.8 kg — 34.3 TH/kg
  4. Antminer S21 XP+ Hyd. — 500 TH/s, 14.8 kg — 33.8 TH/kg
  5. Antminer S21e XP Hyd. — 430 TH/s, 13.8 kg — 31.2 TH/kg
  6. Antminer S21j XP Hyd. — 495 TH/s, 16.2 kg — 30.6 TH/kg
  7. Antminer S23e U2H — 865 TH/s, 29.0 kg — 29.8 TH/kg

The striking part is that every machine in this top seven uses hydro cooling. Removing large onboard air-cooling hardware lets manufacturers pack unusually high compute density into the miner chassis.

This is not the same thing as energy efficiency. Our ranking of the most efficient Bitcoin miners compares J/TH instead, while What Is Hashrate? explains what the TH/s figure actually measures. Our ASIC architecture guide gives more context on how Bitmain, Canaan, MicroBT and Bitdeer approach mining hardware.

A recent S21 XP teardown gives a closer look at the physical hardware behind the hashrate numbers.

BITMAIN’s product manuals and current shop listings were used for the published hashrate and net-weight figures. Ratios are rounded to one decimal place.

A high TH/kg score also does not include pumps, coolant, dry coolers, plumbing, racks or other supporting infrastructure. For a technician carrying only the miner chassis, though, the S23 Hyd. is the clear “lightweight” champion.

Editor’s Note

This ranking compares published miner-chassis net weight with nominal SHA-256 hashrate. Different revisions, operating modes and future product batches can change the result.
